International add on

I'm heading to Japan for a 3 week trip next month. If I purchase the $35 add on for international roaming, does that mean if I receive a call dialed to my US number, the phone will ring in Japan? Also can I dial a Japan number once I'm in Japan?

Don’t waste your money on the add-on. Prepaid does not roam in Japan or anywhere else in Asia. You won’t have service unless you have WiFi calling activated and it works from Japan. The international travel add-on only works in select European and Caribbean countries. If you do have WiFi calling activated and it works, all calls are treated as if you were in the US. A call to a Japanese number would be charged international long distance rates.

The information @sandblaster provided is correct. AT&T does not offer travel plans Outside North America for prepaid service. (Prepaid cannot roam internationally). You would have to unlock your phone if eligible, and purchase service in Japan while you are out there. The international travel add-on only works in select European and Caribbean countries.
