AT&T Stole half my data!

I bought the $300 year of service deal. Followed ALL instructions. When I tried to activate I got an error message. Web would NOT activate my phone. I called in for support. Took them 20 minutes but they figured it out and activated the phone.

THEN - I see I'm only getting 8GB of data instead of 16GB!

I call back and they tell me because I activated over the phone I'm not eligible for 16GB. WHAT? I did NOTHING wrong. I tried to activate online! Their system was screwed up. This is totally unfaIr. Fraud even.

What do I do to get my full allotment of data?

AT&T didn't steal your data. You didn't follow the terms of the promotion which required online only activation. If you had at least used your online order number it might have worked out okay. By the way that promotion is actually 8 + 8, not a full 16. Even if you had activated correctly it would still only show 8 GB of data until you use that up and then 8 gigabytes of bonus data is added automatically.

File an FCC or BBB complaint. The complaint will result in someone from corporate contacting you. Explain to them what happened, I’m sure they can ensure you get the 16GB of data you are due.

So I’m supposed to come here, find a secret method, then contact ATT when THEIR system/process doesn’t work? Or else I lose half my data for a year?

That’s ridiculous. If true, It almost sounds like they are TRYING to take half away. That’s called consumer fraud.

It's not secret.  Anytime you place an order for a product that you don't get,  the first thing you should provide is your order number. In this case your order number may make the difference between you getting the 8+8 deal, or 8 GB only.

How do you know I didn’t provide my order number? I absolutely did!

Shouldn’t have to do that in order to get a company like ATT to do the right thing. I expect such shenanigans from small players but not ATT.

I wonder of they have a target % of customers they are trying to screw out of half the data they think they bought? If the terrible instructions don’t cause customers to call in then the system error surely will! Cha Ching!

Whether you should or shouldn’t have to do that is irrelevant. Do you or do you not want your issue resolved? It’s simply a way to get it resolved. You can either take the advice or not, your choice.
