5G Option not available

I’m currently using the $75 at&t prepaid plan and I didn’t have the 5G signal and the 5G option on my phone settings. I’m sure that AT&T states that my current plan will allow me to use 5G. I’ve tried changing 5G SIM card and E-Sim but still no luck. On an unlocked iPhone 13 Pro.

Hello @sauqydr,

We can definitely provide you with some more information on this.

Your AT&T PREPAID plan absolutely includes 5G access. However, 5G is not available everywhere just yet.

We recommend that you check our 5G coverage map to see if it has reached your area as of right now.

Also, please keep in mind that we can't guarantee that all carrier provided features will work properly on non-AT&T branded devices.

Let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Hello Sean, yes my area is covered by AT&T 5G. My friends were all connected to 5G. I even went to the at&t store and the person who handles me also has 5G. He also did not know why I couldn’t get 5G on my phone. The problem is that my cellular data settings on my phone doesn’t show 5G Option.

Hello @sauqydr,

Thanks for reaching back out to us.

If your cell phone is 5G capable, then your settings should already be in place correctly.

If you would like to check and see if 5G is listed, please go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data/Data Mode.

This is where you should see the 5G option listed.

However, as we previously stated your device is not AT&T branded, so we can't guarantee that all carrier provided features will work properly.

Hope this helps!

As long as it is an US model iPhone, it should work for 5G.  There is some provisioning issue.  If this is the current $75 plan ($60 after autopay) then it supports it.  I have this plan on my iPhone 12 Pro and get 5G.

Did you signup for this plan with this phone?  Or was it used with a different phone in the past and transferred to this phone?

Yep its a US model phone, factory unlocked. And yes its transferred from an iPhone X which doesn’t support 5G. But I went to AT&T store to get a new SIM and even e-sim but it still doesnt work

I'm still only thinking 2 options you can do that don't involve leaving ATT.

One, getting ahold of tech support on the phone, and having them escalate it if necessary.  That may be difficult to reach, I haven't had to do support for a few years now on ATT Prepaid (my main number went through some MVNOs).

Another one is just before the current plan month ends, change to another plan.  This will terminate your current plan.  Possibly pick the PPU plan.  The other plans don't support 5G.  Make sure works.  Cycle power.  If pick the PPU plan then change back to this plan.  See if that triggers 5G provisioning.

I'm also assuming you don't have any special discount that requires new activation.  I'm paying $50/month because I ported in from another non ATT network carrier.  You would also have to be careful to do the Autopay correctly so not to lose it for a month.

@kevink  I have exactly the same problem. My iPhone 14 pro won’t get 5G data even though I’m in an area that has good coverage. Did you guys figured out how to provision the line correctly?

@gnphoenix79

Consider that a positive. There are more complaints about 5G then there are praises. Most of the new comments we get about 5G are how to turn it off because LTE works great and 5G bogs the phone down so that data is unusable and sometimes disconnects the phone entirely.

If you insist, you have to call AT&T and talk to tech support
