Signal to phone but not to hotspot device

I get one or two bars on my phone but I'm trying to set up a globalme hotspot. I have a prepaid att data SIM in there and everything seeto be good re the APN etc but I'm getting NO phone signal. Is it my settings or is the device not as good as my phone?

If you read the reviews, it's not compatible with AT&T. Or rather, it has all LTE bands, but At&t does not recognize it, so excludes it.

Oh man, I wish I had read this response before wasting hours on tech support to ATT, who finally told me they couldn't help and I had to go identify myself at a store. And then they ended with, 'Have I resolved your issue today?' 'No, of course you haven't!'

I'm keeping the SIM though. it has a seriously cool number I memorized after reading it twice.
