Redmi Note 7 cannot find/activate the PureTalkUSA SIM card that cannot find/connect to a network. Zero calling, zero texting. HELP PLEASE!

I recently purchased the unlocked Global version of the Redmi Note 7 by Xiaomi and matched it to the AT&T-supported MVNO PuretalkUSA (Prepaid Plan: unlimited text/calling +3GB Data)

Practically the second day after set-up the Messaging App wasn't syncing with the Xiaomi Cloud leaving me unable to send text. The pop-up reason said the app couldn't find/read/activate the SIM.

When attempting outward-bound calls, it says No Network Connection although the Wi-Fi symbol is displayed and in Settings it is indeed connected to my home network (as is my laptop)

Is it the phone or is it the PureTalk SIM?

technically inept, please explain like I'm five,

thanks

You should contact Puretalk, not AT&T. If your sim card is working correctly the phone should at least work on 3G for talk and text. LTE is unlikely as you have only two bands in common.
I would say the problem is that your phone is not compatible with with puretalk/AT&T.

I also hope you didn't pay very much for it and don't plan on using it long term because it is not voice over LTE compatible which will be required within the next 12 to 24 months. It should work on 3g until 3g is turned off.

Did you check compatibility before you bought the phone?

Thank you so much for this response. Since September 2019 I was looking to buy a new but low-budget device through Amazon Prime.

Anticipating the end-of-year sales/deals, I compiled a spreadsheet comparing the devices I liked, specs/pricing/popularity/ratings and availability.

I watched reviews on Youtube, CNET and numerous other tech/consumer advice-websites.

A fat lot of good it did me!

Only after the phone arrived did I realise the omission in my research (and visually-pleasing but not-too-elucidating spreadsheet.. Carriers!

Fortunately the phone was inexpensive and with the PureTalk plan, everything was about $25 short of $200.

I wasn't aware of the voice over/LTE compatibility requirement (and of course there's nary a warning/caveat on Amazon about the suitability or usability within the US)

My time and effort outweighed the price; so the purchase still stings.

Education, apparently, is rarely complete or comprehensive. And it always costs more than one would like.

I'm sorry your research was all for nought. But I applaud you for doing all that work.
What I recommend is that people shop in Best Buy and take a look at what they have on their unlocked device display. They have at least 10 unlocked phones, most of which are accurately marked and will work on AT&T.

Unfortunately because of the shutdown of 3-g services, phones from other countries will not work in the USA as they have in the past.

Fortunately Amazon has a decent return policy.

Thanks again for your diligence. I have an AT&T prepaid calling card worth $20. Would this not enable a temporary solution?

PureTalkUSA Tech is not responding to my third email request since yesterday.
