New phone, same SIM card ? Shouldn't this work ?

I have a replacement unlocked phone for my existing unlocked phone on an AT&T prepaid plan.

I transferred the SIM card from the old phone to the new one.

On the "Update Device" page, I am trying to enter the new IMEI number, but get the following error message:

"Please try again, ONLY enter a NEW SIM and/or IMEI. Your entry included an existing SIM or IMEI number."

The phone is brand new, directly from Motorola, so the IMEI is clean.

Do I need an actual different SIM for this phone ?

Thanks much.

If the new phone is not on ATT’s supported phone list, you can not activate it. Due to the pending 3G shutdown, ATT will no longer activate a phone not on their supported list.

It's a new Motorola G Power 2020. [Updated] - yeah, it's on there. Thanks.

Where are you looking? I see nothing by that name. You also need to match the model number. An unlocked phone might have a different model number. Here is the list I’m looking at:

OK, looks like I'm good. Seems that on a prepaid account, I didn't need to update the IMEI at all. Just popping the new SIM in the phone did the trick for mobile network data. Sheesh.
