New ATT prepaid account (Port in) calling working. data working, sms not working

Hi,

 

Just ported my number in to ATT Prepaid on the $50 ($40 with autopay) plan. 

Calling is working, data is working but SMS is not working

this is on an unlocked ATT branded Iphone XR 

when I go in to settings / Messaging and choose iMessage it says activation unsuccessful. 

 

What do I need to do or how can i get this fixed so I can use SMS?

You're likely to resolve your inability to receive SMS with troubleshooting steps. Allow us to assist.

  • Make sure SMS messaging on your phone is enabled:
    • Go to Settings > Messages and toggle on MMS Messaging and Send as SMS.
  • It might take up to 24 hours to activate iMessage. If your experience persists after 24 hours, make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS.

Sign in to your Apple ID account page and review all the email addresses you have on file, including the one that you're trying to verify. If the email address is incorrect, you can update it. Then click Resend next to the email address that you want to verify.

You were close, took about 96 hours. very odd behaviour for sms. But I'm glad everything is finally working.
