Okay we're going to start at the top. AT&T no longer uses GSM technology. That is 2G and 3G which has been turned off.

AT&T cannot provide you with a comprehensive list of unlocked phones. AT&T stopped certifying phones in July of 2022.

You can purchase off of the outdated PDF list, or hope that a newer model will work.

It is now entirely up to us customers to purchase a phone that works on AT&T and check the IMEI

There are no unlocked phones from ATT. ATT only sells locked phones. As for compatible unlocked androids not sold by ATT, there is a list but I don’t have it. You can search the forum, I know it has been posted before or maybe someone else will post it.

Perhaps it is misunderstood, not necesarily Att phones but those that work with Att prepaid. I've had 2  unlocked phones that worked with ATT prepaid, and have used them continually internationally until batteriesquit charging. I need to know new phones that do the same.

Purchasing a phone off of AT&T's PDF does not guarantee the phone will have all services like Wi-Fi calling or 5G. All AT&T can assure you if the phone is compatible is talk text and data

I need to know which phones are UNLOCKED & work with prepaid so that list does me no good even if it was up to date! Please stick to the w question specified!

The list includes both.  The unlocked list is 10 months out of date.

Here is a November 2022 list https://www.att.com/idpassets/images/support/pdf/Devices-Working-on-ATT-Network.pdf

It includes Factory US unlocked phones and phones that were sold for ATT use.  And obviously best to only use unlocked if you buy used to confirm that the original user, if bought from ATT, has paid off the phone.  Locked phones may still be on a payment plan and not usable on a different account.

The list does no good as it doesnt specify if the phone is unlocked & works with prepaid. Many phones on the list are lockec.

Well, to go back to what @formerlyknownas  first asked, do you need a GSM (2G/3G) phone? If the answer is yes, stop and go no further. If you need to use a 4G/LTE phone for AT&T, then continue  your search.

I don't think anyone has come up with a list of phones that are unlocked.

If you are looking to buy new, then ignore any ATT specific models.  They will be locked to ATT when sold, and won't be unlockable for 60 days on postpaid, 6 months on prepaid.

If a phone is compatible on ATT, it will work both prepaid and postpaid.

If you want factory unlocked, check the models against the factory web site.  Generally if the web site doesn't have an US unlocked model for sale, you don't want it if you want it to be unlocked.  International unlocked phones probably won't work on ATT or will have limitations.

Samsung, for instance, sells phones on their web site.  Some of the models have the US unlocked version available.  Either ends in an U or U1.  Apple sells carrier unlocked phones too.

I tried briefly a Galaxy phone that wasn't on the list, but since the previous several U1 models were on the list I assumed the latest would work.  Activated fine with my ATT Prepaid SIM.
