my phone is not working anymore.

So, my phone is around 4 years old, and it is the iPhone 12. So apparently my phone now has a passcode, but I never put one on. my phone updated and I can't get into my phone due to the code.

I was wondering sense it is a prepaid phone if i am able to swap for the same phone and put the sim in. will it work or will it need the passcode for that phone too?

If the phone is still asking for a passcode, you likely didn’t follow the Apple instructions fully or correctly to restore the phone.  You did connect the phone to a computer with iTunes and select restore, correct?  The instructions completely wipe the phone, reinstall the software, and ask you to set the phone up from scratch, like it was brand new.  It shouldn’t be asking for a passcode at all.

Take it to Apple and have them look at it.  AT&T can’t help you with this.

The iPhone 12 is 3 years old. The new phone is the 15 which is just released.

You own the phone. You cannot swap phones you would have to purchase a phone, they are not free.

All phones require a pin or a passcode once the phone restarts.  If you don't know it you have to use your Apple ID to re-enable access to your phone.

This is an Apple feature and a user feature not a service provider feature

well, I tried that but now this is what my phone shows and I never set a passcode that is the main problem. I can't figure out what it could be that is what is going on. So, I can't get into the phone or even upgrade it. But I never had set a passcode that is why I don't know what to do.

Seriously @ATTHelp  ?  What is AT&T going to do to help with the screen passcode on an iPhone that is set up on the iPhone itself that AT&T has no knowledge of or control over.

I can guess how it’s going to go.

@dwill05 I didn't get an option for the restore, but it ended up upgrading and now I am completely locked.

@ATTHelp I would but I would have to pay to call them sense I can't use my phone and it being a prepaid. and i don't have enough money to pay for it.

@hunniemchugh

Everyone sets up a PIN/passcode on their phone. Whether you remembered or not, at some point you did. It's standard operating procedure when you set up your phone.  You probably haven't turned it off since the last time there was a major operating system update.  But anytime your device restarts, It requires you enter the passcode.

This is a security feature so that if someone steals your phone and turns it off, they are automatically locked out of it when they power it back on.

Please read the Apple link again and follow directions. The other alternative is to log in with your Apple ID onto someone else's find my phone application and have your device erased
