Can't connect to the internet with prepaid

Hi,

Today I bought AT&T prepaid card at Walmart as im on vacations in US. I activated it via link from sms. When I'm turning on mobile data on phone, it asks me to login into the network. When I give phone IMEI and sim number and click continue, it throws network error and I don't have connection to the internet. What should I do about it?

Thank you for that information, KacperP. Here's why your phone's incapable of connecting to the network.

As @sandblaster advised, if you're using a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) then it's possible that it's not compatible to our upgraded network. You can check for the exact device model at Devices Tested and Approved.

It's also possible to enter your phone's IMEI at Let's Identify Your Device to see if it's actually supported. One sure way to test if your phone will work over our network is to test whether your device is capable of making and receiving incoming and outgoing calls.

If not, then you can purchase an AT&T PREPAID phone which can get you connected fast. Find an AT&T PREPAID phone anywhere they're sold including at your nearest Walmart, Best Buy, Target, or AT&T Store.

If your device is compatible, then you will want to make sure mobile data is enabled on your phone in order to use Hotspot.

  1. Launch the Settings app, then select Connections.
  2. Tap Data usage.
  3. Make sure that Mobile data is turned on.

We hope this information helps. Let us know how it goes. We can recommend other troubleshooting steps if your device is compatible to your network.

What phone are you using? It may not be compatible with ATT’s network.

Thank you for letting us know that you have a Samsung Galaxy A53 @KacperP.

Your device is approved to work on our network, but it may require a software update to enable HD Voice, Wi-Fi Calling, Video Call, Advanced Messaging or 5G services.

Since you connect to the internet on your mobile device, you can program your data settings by :

  1. Tap your Settings menu.
  2. Choose either Wireless & Networks, More Networks, or Connections.
  3. Tap Mobile Networks, then Access Point Names.
  4. Find and select the option to add a new APN. You may find a plus (+) symbol on the screen, or tap the menu button.
  5. Program each field using the settings found in the table.
  6. Save your changes to return to the APN's menu and choose the new APN.

Let us know if this works.
