Bought unlocked iPhone SE, and have no idea how to transfer service and number to new phone

Okay, so I lost my iPhone 6s Plus Friday of last week on vacation. I looked for 3 days & couldn't find it, so I had to leave it wherever it is. Got home and ordered an unlocked iPhone SE 2nd edition from BestBuy. I tried adding/updating my device to transfer service to this new phone, and I'm getting that the SIM is invalid. I'm assuming I have to order a SIM kit through AT&T prepaid? I keep trying, but the only option I am given is to order a kit with a plan added on. I already have a plan. In fact, my plan renewed the day before my phone was lost. I wish this website provided better customer service. I can't be the only one who has lost a phone and had to jump through hoops to get everything straightened out. I'm typing this on a computer, and so I can't really call customer service or do their video chat option (no idea why they can't do a regular chat, then I wouldn't have to type this all out hoping someone sees and actually responds to it any time soon.

Yes, you need a new prepaid SIM card. Unfortunately, ATT makes it impossible to just order a replacement SIM card without buying a plan. Your options are to buy a SIM card from some other source (Amazon, eBay) or go to an ATT store. I’m sure there’s a way to order just a replacement SIM card from ATT, but I don’t know how. Once you get the SIM card, you’ll need to contact ATT to have it activated with your number. Of course, that can be done at an ATT store.

Far easier to just get it done at an AT&T store since they can do it all for you in one stop - even if it's curb side.
