AT&T Prepaid Phone

Can I use an AT&T Prepaid Phone on the Tracfone Wireless service without using the device on AT&T?

Maybe. Tracfone is an MVNO that uses other carrier’s networks including ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile. An ATT prepaid phone is locked to ATT and will only work on ATT’s network until it is unlocked. If you get Tracfone service that uses ATT’s network, an ATT locked phone will work.

So should I buy a TracFone sim kit that uses AT&T network?

We'd like to share some helpful information with you about AT&T's network @articlegamin.

AT&T can't guarantee non-AT&T devices will be compatible with all AT&T services. AT&T requires a compatible AT&T SIM and compatible device.

We advise inquiring with the manufacturer of your device and purchasing a AT&T supported device.

We hope this helps.

Tracfone doesn't have a network. They resell access on other networks like ATT, T-Mobile, Verizon.  And as long as the ATT Prepaid phone is matches the current compatibility list (ie support VoLTE on ATT), it should work on Tracfone's ATT network.  With ATT compatible SIM from them.

If you've used the phone on the ATT Prepaid network for 6 months, you can likely unlock it.  And depending on the phone, it may work on the other networks.
