AT&T Prepaid customer passed away

A family member of mine, an AT&T Prepaid customer, is no longer alive. I am the court-appointed executor of that person's estate. In that legal capacity I am selling various of his old personal belongings including his AT&T Prepaid phone.

That phone, an Alcatel SMARTFLIP 4052R, is locked to AT&T. I have submitted two unlock requests with its IMEI. Both of those requests have been indicated as DENIED but with no explanation as to why.

Since it had been only a prepaid contract, there would be no balance owing for service, correct? The phone was purchased outright.

Any suggestions as to how this may be resolved?

Thanks so much!

Nothing is preventing you from selling the phone.  Just sell it as a locked phone.  This is AT&T’s policy in the event an account holder dies.  Nothing about unlocking a phone.

There is no balance.  But if the phone wasn't used for 6 months it isn't eligible.
