Are AT&T Prepaid SIM cards locked to a particular device IMEI?

Hi,

I would like to know if AT&T PREPAID SIM cards are locked to a particular IMEI or device i.e they won't work with a different device with a different IMEI.

Thanks in advance...! Would really appreciate any info on this.

The last time I tried moving a newly bought prepaid SIM from its device to a different one was several years (3-4) ago and then it worked without a hitch.

Thanks.. I just confirmed the same from AT&T as well. But the SIM gets auto deactivated within 2 months if not used.

Sure thing. That's right, the SIM needs not only to be used but the money needs to be added periodically as well. It's not like a lot of European prepaid SIMs where you only need the SIM to be used to keep it active, here it needs money all the time.

hehe... the same applies in India as well with more than 90% prepaid subscribers if the SIM is not used for more than 60 days and a specific amount of money is not added to it then the service provider has the right to deactivate the SIM.

Hello @arnobde!

Thank you for reaching out to us on the Community Forums. SIM cards are tied to your phone number and can also be used in another compatible device. For example, if you’re experiencing service issues on your device, we may have you test the SIM card in a different phone to see if it is causing the service issue.

Hope this helps! Have a great Friday!
