Do I transfer the SIM card from the old phone to the new one?
I purchased a new iPhone 12 at an ATT store. I followed instructions on transferring data from old iPhone to new. Do I transfer the SIM card from the old phone to the new one?

If you purchased your phone at an AT&T store it should have been activated for you with a new SIM card.
Was it?
If not, or if you are a prepaid user, then you move your sim from your old phone

I activated it at home. Everything transferred from my old phone. I remembered the sales associate said to do something with the SIM card and he showed me how to remove it. But the new phone already had one so I’m confused.

Answering the questions above in full might get you closer to the solution. If you purchase the phone and are Prepaid customer then like you were shown, you move the SIM card from the old phone to the new phone
