Samsung trade in promo
Is this promo only applicable if I would be trading in an old Samsung Galaxy? Or, is it OK to trade in an iPhone to get this promotion in order to start new service with AT&T and get a new Samsung phone as well?

Yes. Read the promotional requirements. There is a list of eligible trade in phones, including iPhones.
