Keeping grandfathered unlimited when upgrading with NeXT?
I want to pick up a new iPhone 6s (or whatever it will be called) when it's released in a few weeks. I currently have a grandfathered unlimited data plan.
In the past I could keep that plan when upgrading, but recently AT&T changed it so that when buying a new phone, the only option is to pay for the whole amount or use NeXT. Can I keep my unlimited data plan if I use NeXT?
In case anyone is wondering why I want to keep the unlimited data plan even though I don't use that much data, my current plan is $10 cheaper than both the 2 and 5 GB shared data plan (even with the NeXT discount).

you can keep your unlimited data and do a 2year contract if you order the phone at ATT.com. ATT has just made it harder for people to get contract phones is all.

Yes, you can keep your unlimited data plan no matter which way you purchase though there might be an issue if you purchase through an authorzied retailer. Some posts I've seen suggest that the option to keep your existing plan is not present when going through some authorized retailers. You can also still get the new iphone at a 2 year contract discounted price (provided your previous contract has ended). To get the 2 year contract price, you must order online at att.com.

There have been several sad posts from customers who didn't check to see if the unlimited plan was still in place after upgrading.
PLEASE....make sure the box for keeping current plan is check. Keep a copy of everything and check you account the next month. If it gets lost in the shuffle, and 90 days goes by, it's gone for good.

I have a feeling that pre-ordering through att.com and getting the phone in any kind of timely matter will be nigh impossible this year for two reasons:
1. AT&T usually has a much smaller inventory of iPhones for pre-order and they take much longer to ship.
2. This year there will be a much higher number of people trying to pre-order via att.com as that's the only place to get the contract subsidized price.
I might go with the new Apple upgrade program, which is similar to AT&T Next, but includes Apple Care+ and leaves the iPhone unlocked. I'm not sure if that will allow me to keep the unlimited data plan as that requires activation of the new phone at the Apple Store. I don't know if there is a way to do that as an upgrade rather than a new activation.
