Information on phones that work on current network

I've been notified I need to upgrade my phone, as my current model is not compatible with upcoming network upgrades. There's a list of phones that work on the AT&T network. Several of these are marked with a "1" that seems to indicate there's a footnote, but there's no footnote. What does the "1" mean? I thought maybe it was models that would be phased out in the near future, both there are cases were certain models are marked, and older models from the same line are not, so it can't be that.
