How to get phone number off family plan?

So pretty soon I'm moving out and cutting contact with family for personal reasons. I want my own plan so only I have control over my phone. I want to keep my same number so I don't have to go through the hassle of changing numbers for employer, friends, and etc. Would I be able to do this on my own or would I need permission from the account holder?

the account holder would need to do a transfer of billing responsibility

One way or another, you need the account owner. As noted, you need to do a transfer of billing responsibility if you stay on ATT. You will need the account number and account pin to port your number to a different carrier.

Hey there @Trevor2319!

Let's look into your request about accepting account ownership of your current number. Both @Constructive and @sandblaster are correct. In order to assume responsibility for your line you will need the Primary Account Holder to request a Transfer of Billing Responsibility as specified here.

Hope this info helps.
