Does a trade-in phone have to be paid off first?

Hello

I'm considering getting a new iPhone 14 Pro Max with a trade-in promotion.

The phone I'm trading in is still on the installment plan. Do I have to pay off first before the trade-in?

I read the terms&condition, it says nowhere that the trade-in phone should be paid off first.

So, is it possible that I keep paying the installment plan on my old phone after trade-in so that I keep getting the monthly credit from the previous promotion?

Thank you in advance!

You can’t have two installment plans on one line. You can keep the installment plan and credits for the trade in only if you buy the 14 on a different line. If you buy the 14 on the same line as the trade in, you have to pay it off first.

Thank you for your quick response.

I have one more line that is not on any installment plan. So If I purchase a new iPhone on that line and trade in my old phone without paying it off, I can still get the monthly credit for the old phone's installment plan, correct?

What about trading in ATT iphone to Apple?  My son traded in his ATT phone to Apple last October and is making a monthly payment for the new phone to Apple but I noticed I'm still making the ATT original monthly payment for the last 5 months.

Yes, it is possible to make a trade-in to a different business and still maintain your installments with AT&t

So I just want to confirm- I bought an iPhone 12 Pro Max from a friend (not paid off) and have been using it on at&t. Can I trade this 12 pro max in on my account and get the $800 bill credit promotion going on?

@Jmcgirt97 Yes, as long as the installment plan for the 12 is not on your account, you can trade it in and get the trade in credit.

Is it that you can trade in a phone your paying installments on if it’s on another line or is it if it’s on another account? I see both answers on here, unless I’m reading it all wrong. Will they take my iPhone 12 Pro Max as a trade in on another line even though I have it on installments on my line?

If I have my current phone paid off and I upgrade will I have a monthly payment, or am I just paying for my phone line?
