Do I need updated SIM card for iPhone 12 pro

Just set up new iPhone 12 pro from my old iPhone 8.   Under cellular in settings, I cannot get 5G to show up as option.  I read where I may need new or updated SIM card to use 5G.  Anyone else have this?

Let's take a look into why your cellphone isn't connecting to the 5G signal!

 

To understand what's happening, we'd like to ask a few questions:

  • Is your iPhone AT&T-branded or purchased through a 3d-party retailer?
  • Are you able send/receive phone calls, texts, access mobile apps or the internet on your cellphone?
  • Under cellular settings, does the signal appears as either 3G, 4G, 4G LTE etc?
  • Have you checked for new software updates for the device and Updated Your Carrier Settings?

Provide us more specific details to proceed further.
