Networking H24
So I get this email from DirecTV saying my receivers are not connected to the internet. They are connected to my LAN and my LAN connects to the internet just fine. I have documented that each of the 3 H24 receivers I have on my network are constantly making DHCP requests of my gateway as logged on my router. I had documented previously that they are attempting to allow media sharing with other devices on my LAN. I have also documented that they are trying to reach the internet using a hard-wired IP address in the 169.254.*.* range. Now since my LAN uses a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 these attempts to get to the internet with 169.254.*.* will not work. So I must further assume that since the H24 devices are using 169.254.*.* is the reason why I received the email from DirecTV that my receivers are not connected to the internet. Why would I want an H24 to connect to the internet? Maybe DirecTV is no longer with ATT as the categorizations available no longer allow that choice...

This question is better asked on the DIRECTV forums, not on AT&T's home security forum. AT&T has spun off AT&T TV / DIRECTV to a separate DIRECTV company. Please see their forums here:

However, I will tell you that receivers with self-assigned IP addresses such as yours have won't be connecting to the Internet.
