Disconnected Digital Life Service and now my Local Alarm, That I OWN doesn't work.

This should be simple.  I no longer need ATT to monitor and call the police if my alarm sounds, so I canceled the service.  ATT, in turn, sends a signal to shut down my whole security system.  I own the system, the controllers the alarm, the sensors everything.  The functionality of my equipment should not be tampered with once I discontinue service.  Now all I see is "Can't Connect" on the screen, and I have no ability to protect my home.  

 

Has anyone been able to get the local alarms working again?  This is a scam move to force customers into monthly payments.  I'm going to wait for an answer before reporting this to the Better Business Bureau.
