Contact phones in perpetual state of "being verified"

I am not receiving any text notification when certain device events happen and I am assuming it's because when I go to Contacts my primary phone and additional phone both have the following message "This contact is in process of being verified and may not receive messages."  It's been like that for a week or two since we had the system installed.  Is there any way of getting these numbers verified?

By searching the forum I found a solution.  Test YES to 83536.  I guess my next logical question is how someone would normally find that out without going through support or the forums.
