z700a Home Phone and Internet SLOW!!!

I have a new Homebase ZTE z700a.I get 2-3 bars of LTE signal (~100-105 dBm). My speeds have varied all over the place, but never more than 5 Mbs. Now I'm seeing speeds of 0.5 Mbs, while my cell phone with Cricket (AT&T) is getting close to 8 Mbs in the same exact spot.  Since the z700a has both wifi and ethernet, I have tried both with the same slow results. I have tried multiple resets.  Any thoughts on what's going on? Fixes?

Hey @bartman99,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community Forums in regards to your home phone and Internet issues. To have your speeds jump all over can be very unsettling, especially if it is causing problems with your service at home. I’m more than happy to help today!

The first thing, I would suggest is visiting our Device Support Page. Once there, please select the Make and Model of your home phone > Select Tutorials > Select Download or Upload speeds are slow for the troubleshooting steps.

If you are still not seeing a solution for this problem, it is possible there could be something wrong with the device itself and it may need to be replaced. The best option for replacement would be to use the 1 year warranty if it applies to the device.

Please let us know the outcome of your troubleshooting. Hope you enjoy your weekend!

I also have a Homebase 2700A.  Here is what I am experiencing.  When I connect via the device WiFi I get consistent speeds of 15+ down and 15+ up.  However, if I connect a wireless router via the Ethernet port of the Homebase and use that devices WiFi, my speeds are drastically reduced to 4 down, but I still get 15+ up.

So I guess my question is, does the Homebase 2700A limit connection speeds if you use a wireless router connected via the 2700A's Ethernet port?

Greetings @umbee01!

I am pleased to see you are inquiring on your connection as well. When you depend on your home base for connection on your Wi-Fi devices or Ethernet usage, the speeds are certainly a must. I can go over additional details to best assist you!

While the Ethernet cord is connected rather than a Wi-Fi connection, the speeds should be the same or better depending on the connected device. Remember, when you choose to use your Ethernet connection other than the Wi-Fi connection on your home base, there are a few adjustments you need to make for the maximum speed strength.

On the AT&T Home Base Manager (while connected to your Home Base), make sure the Internet connection button on the Home screen displays Turn Internet Off, indicating the internet is ON.

On the AT&T Home Base Manager (while connected to your Home Base), go to Settings > Network > APN and check the Profile selection is set to ATT Nextgenphone (model Z700A) or ATT Phone (model Z700). Also, ensure your Ethernet cord is firmly connect to your home base and connected device. For optimum connection, ensure your home base is as close as possible to a near window.

If you are still running into issues, I invite you to check out our Troubleshoot & Resolve tool. Select your make and model device, then click on Internet to get started!

Have an awesome rest of your day!

Those settings are as you indicated they should be.  I swapped out the network cable, and made sure they are fully connected.  I still have the same issue.  Very slow downloads but fast uploads on the router connected to the ethernet on my Home Base 2700A.  The wifi produces the speeds I expect to get.

Also, if I connect a divece directly to the ethernet port on the Home Base, I get the same slow downloads and fast uploads.  This is why I think the issue is either with the Home Base hardware or has something to do with my service configuration.

Hello there @umbee01!

I want to take the time to thank you for responding so promptly in regards to your home base speeds. By listing the troubleshooting steps you have already attempted, this greatly helps me in narrowing down the problem.

Since you’ve noticed a change in the device speeds, have you tried to reboot the home base? By powering your device off and back in, this can assist it to refresh its connection to our network.

Also, is the Ethernet cord the same you have always used since purchase of the home base? I highly suggest looking on the cord for any damage or debris on or around the connectors.

Let us know how it works out. Have a great rest of your day and take care!

How can your download speeds be slower than your upload speed? I have never seen this before.

Consistently less than 5 Mbps download and always above 5 Mbps upload. Tell me there is no throttle.

Most resent ATT Speedtest: 2.13 Mbps download and 6.04 Mbps upload.

I see it all the time on overtaxed networks. People are downloading to network capacity, but not uploading that much.

What plan do you have?

I have the Z700A home base and my issue is that I do a regular speed test and it shows I get at least 30 mbps down and 15 mbps up. Now when I go to log onto netflix and do a speed test it says that my speed is only 4 mbps down.  How is that when I am supposed to be on the plan that has 500 gb per a month and NO throttling due to me not being in the U-Verse area. I feel though that my speeds ARE being throttled and this is getting so annoying.

@JumpinIsUseless Check your account and make sure that Stream Saver isn't enabled (I'm not sure if it's available on those WHPI plans).

But something is going on...

@Gary L Thanks for the reply, but sadly they do not have that option. I don't understand what is the issue but I know for a fact that our tower does not get overloaded as we are out in the middle of nowhere. I did get in touch with AT&T and they had no idea... It is so hopeless when you can't get any other type of high speed net out here and the one you do get has glitches. If anybody else has any other type of ideas let me know. FYI I am also using the ORBI wireless system and it is running in router mode and the home base is not broadcasting wifi, but obviously internet.
