When will I be able to get an actual 5G Unlimited Data Plan for my "data only" devices?

I have seven lines on AT&T today, two of them are "Data Only".

I want to switch from my old AT&T Unlimited Plus Multi Line (LTE) plan to the newer AT&T My Way, 5G Unlimited Elite plans.

Unfortunately, If I do, I will have to cap my data usage on both of my "Data Only" devices down to 25 - 45 GB per month.

This is just unacceptable.

I currently use, on average, around 175 GB/month between the two data only devices.

Come on AT&T you can do better for your Data Only device users.

First off, your plan should now include 5G access. So what kind of data only devices are you talking about? Any device that can be added to an unlimited plan also gets unlimited data. If you are talking about a hotspot device, it can not be added to any of the current unlimited plans. A hotspot device would be on a separate plan. If you are getting unlimited data on a hotspot device, don’t ever give that up.

@sandblaster , the plan does grant 5G access to all 5G capable phones on the plan, but not hotspots or ipads.  These data only devices, even if they are 5G rated, cannot access the 5G network without being moved to a 5G data only plan.  Unfortunately, AT&T does not offer one with unlimited data, which is what I need.

So, in the meantime, I stay with my old plan, in which I only receive LTE (aka 5GE on AT&T's network) at LTE only speeds.  If I go over 22GB, AT&T might slow the data down, but not always.  In practice it rarely is slowed down in my area.

So today, I have no overage charges, but if I want to move to 5G speeds, I would be stuck with a small amount of usable data every month and them pay an additional $10 for every 2GB or have my speeds cut all the way down to 128kb/sec, which is basically not usable for anything.

@Constructive , you say there are reasons, but do not provide any or elaborate.

We need to move beyond the vague and provide real solutions for customers in rural areas....

Hotspots are NEVER going to be unlimited again.  There is a reason the hotspot is limited on cell phone lines also.  The new unlimited plans do give tablets unlimited data.

@GLIMMERMAN76 I am still hopeful that AT&T will eventually allow for unlimited 5G for hotspots...

Oh well, at least I'll be able to keep my LTE speeds until that technology goes EOL.   Maybe I'll have Starlink by then...
