What is SpinMaze or SpinMaize

I discovered a yellowish icon on my ZTE MAVEN 3 phone this morning, think it said SpinMaize or SpinMaze. I looked in my Settings-->Apps list and could not find anything by that name. I held my finder on the icon after to select "Remove" but it disappeared from the phone desktop by itself. I can't find any reference to this on the internet. What is/was it?

We weren't able to find much about that application, @AncientZygote. We can share some recommendations on how to keep your device safe from malware.

Your device's user manual shares how to see apps installed on your phone and manage them:

  • Touch the Home key > Settings > view your apps.
  • Touch Show system / Hide system to show/hide system apps in the list.

Use Safe Mode to determine if there's a harmful application on your device. When initiated, your phone will only have access to core apps that were pre-installed in the phone at the factory.

To activate Safe Mode:

  1. Hold the power key until the Power off icon appears.
  2. Press and hold the Power off icon until the Safe Mode prompt appears.
  3. Select Safe Mode to confirm.

Once your device has powered on, you should see the words "Safe Mode" in the lower right/left corner of your screen.

Heads up: Before enabling Safe Mode, ensure the device is running the latest system software and close out all recent/running app

If you're still unable to locate the app, you can perform a factory data reset (master reset). This will erase all personal data, preferences, settings and content such as pictures, ringtones and apps that are saved to the device. It is recommended that you save (backup) important data before proceeding.

  • To 'factory data reset' your device, swipe down from the Notification bar > select the Settings icon > select Backup & reset > Factory Data reset > RESET PHONE > ERASE EVERYTHING.

Let us know how this works.

@JosepAlfons

Gracias. Parece que SpinMaze es algo que el teléfono o ATT pone allí.

@ATTHelp

The icon name is SpinMaze, yellowish maze-looking per name. I just a moment ago held my finger on it and selected "Remove" from desktop. Dunno if will stay removed.

As I said, it doesn't appear in the list of apps installed on my phone (unhid system to check and was appalled to see a horde of poorly identified crapware from Google and ATT preinstall, but no SpinMaze).

I do not allow any internet use of my phone other than brief wireless hotspot to pc daily, password protected.

How in the world could you have an app on the phone that is not listed in the apps installed?

There should be no way any malware could have been installed on my phone. I never use links sent by text message (almost never receive any since I detest text messages). No email, no browsing. Just telephone use and daily internet connection with pc.

I will see if the online security people are aware of "SpinMaze" (could be some benign crapware at best).

I am not going to reset my phone. That would be a recipe for disaster (I am elderly and my health would not handle a session with your support). @JosepAlfons above said it didn't work anyway (as I suspected it would not, being something you or the ZTE folks are putting there).
