Unlocking a device
I am trying to get an iPhone on my account unlocked. While it is being unlocked, will the phone be able to use? This may be a dumb question but I know nothing about it.

Unlocking requests, and unlocking the phone doesn't do anything to the phone other than remove carrier restriction. It also does not terminate your service or stop service charges
