Unlock phone

I brought my own personal phone to at&t and didn't like the service. Now my phone is locked to at&t and they won't unlock it. What can I do?

Read the requirements for unlocking your phone on the AT&T unlock portal. If you meet those requirements, then you can unlock your phone there. If not, it should tell you why.

Current status - Denied

We can’t unlock this device because it’s not an AT&Tdevice... This is what I received. My phone is still locked to at&t, but they can't unlock it because it's not one of theirs? That makes no sense

What model of phone? How long did you use the phone on AT&T? Usually the minimum is 6 months before you can unlock it, or the phone is old enough that the IMEI number has been purged from the database.

Wait a minute... you say you brought your own phones to AT&T?  Were they purchased as factory unlocked?  Or were they bought from another retailer that was for use on AT&T?

For example, I know Best Buy sells both factory unlocked and AT&T locked devices for use on AT&T.  The same if buying from Amazon.

Why do you think the phones are now "locked"?

Factory unlocked devices, even if used on AT&T do not suddenly become "locked".  They will acquire the AT&T boot screen once it's up an running on AT&T, but that is software only.

Have you tried simply sticking another carrier SIM in the phone and see if it works?

Please let us know these things before we can go further to figure out what to do.
