Turning off 3G for the LG Shine

Please excuse if this has been mentioned before. My wife has the Shine and wanted no Internet or texting on her line, when she signed up. She uses the phone for voice only. In her case, it would be better to not have 3G at all, since its better for data, and EDGE has been shown to be better for voice. Does anyone know of a way to turn off 3g, altogether on the Shine so it doesn't go to 3G, even when EDGE is weak?

Here are the steps:

Enter 277634#*#

Scroll down to #5 modem setting and click OK

Scroll down to #2 network mode and click OK

Click OK again on #1 network mode

Scroll down to #2, 2g only, and click OK

***SEE NOTE BELOW***

Press clear until you are out of all menus.

Power the phone off, wait 15 sec, power on.

***NOTE*** When changing back to 3g, select dual mode in this step.
