Switching to Verizon for Lumia Icon
Hello fellow members,
I want to upgrade my Lumia 925 when I am up for renewal in November. I really love the Pureview Camera on the Lumia phones however I am limited to the Lumia 1020 and the 1520 as the upgrade options for the Pureview camera. I am not into the phablet hype so the 1520 is out of the question. The 1020 is a good option but It has the same internals as the 925 except for more storage and the camera. I was hoping that Microsoft would announce that the 930 would be offered on AT&T in the IFA event recently. The lumia icon currently on Verizon is the perfect Lumia to upgrade from the 925 IMHO. Plus Verizon does not have a problem with Qi wireless charging 🙂
If AT&T does not offer the 930 by November/December, I'm thinking of jumping ship for Verizon for the Icon. Anyone else here thinking along the same lines or has already crossed over?

I have read that the 930 will not see a US release and that they are focusing on the Icon for the US instead.

I don't know that I'm ready to switch carriers but I really hope AT&T will get the Icon or it's AT&T cousin as well. I've been waiting for the right Windows phone to make the switch from Android and I thin the Icon is pretty much it. My understanding though is that AT&T is reducing support for Windows phones in general. Many if not all of the stores no longer stock them - low demand. Hopefully Microsoft will lean on them to refresh the hardware line an offer the newer phones without a bunch of AT&T customization.

I'm not in an area where jumping ship is really an option. I have a 1520, I can say its really not that much bigger then the Icon. You don't get wireless charging without a charging cover, but you do get a SD card slot.

Jumping sounds good, but if you like 8.1/Cyan you might think again. Verizon hasn't even started rolling it out and they are as silent as ATT on their boards. Be careful of what you ask for.

I think this is a true but only for the holiday season (i hope) where AT&T wants to make the most bucks from the new iPhone sales. Windows phone will be the ugly step child sitting in the corner.
AT&T did confirm that the 830 will be offered soon (I don't know how the qi charging will be sorted, maybe just offer a plain-jane back cover) but I don't see any bright outlook for high-end/premium handsets unless MS can sort it out with AT&T.

If this is true I'm really switching to a different company. I do want the Icon / 930. Feel dissapointed by AT&T and lack of top of the line WP hardware.

In case you missed the announcement Verizon has pulled the Icon. The only real options at this point are the 1520, soon to be released 830, or wait till next year. It does suck but, I still say MS ended up between a rock and a hard place when Mclaren blew up. That was supposed to be the new flagship for this year. In a way I do give MS some credit for pullng the plug on a product that didn't work rather than pushing it out and letting the customers deal with crappy tech. So I'm just going to hang onto my 920 with Cortana, Glance, Qi, and a decent camera and wait till next year and see what Win10 brings.
