Porting phone number from AT&T to Google Voice
I am trying to port my AT&T wireless number to Google Voice. I have requested a transfer pin on the AT&T site, started the transfer process at google voice, but the process fails (apparently because of "bad account number"). I have tried twice with the same result. I got my account number straight from my bill, and also tried "Foundation Account" from my bill, but neither worked. Contacting Google Voice (which was easy), they just said I need to talk to AT&T, as that is where the verification is failing (they suggested checking the account number, but I double and triple checked).
I tried contacting AT&T, got a run-around for a while, and was told "someone from the porting team will contact you". They never did. I'm kind of reluctant to go through another half hour on the phone, so trying here to see if I can get guidance what might be going wrong in the porting request.
Note that the number I am porting is my wife's number, but I am the account holder. The Google Voice transfer process does specifically say "account holder", so I am filling in my details, not hers.
Regards,
Chris.

Do you by any chance have combined services with AT&t. Like a home internet as well as wireless. You may have a different account number for combined billing then you do for just your wireless account

Sorry, I thought I replied to this.
I did have bundled DSL service, but right now I only have the wireless service. I took the "account number" directly from my most recent bill. If I do have another account number hidden somewhere, I have no idea how to find it...
Regards,
Chris.

If you have combined billing you have more than one account number. Yes it's idiotic. There will be a foundation account number which encompasses combined accounts but each individual service has its own account number. Please call AT&T to get the account number for your wireless account
Postpaid consumer customers require a port pin which you get by dialing *port
Prepaid or business does not need a port pin but needs to use the security pin code.
Your port may be rejected for a bad account number even if the account number is correct but your port pin or security pin code is not provided or is not correct
