porting phone number from a different carrier

My father briefly changed his carrier from ATT to Great Call. Over the weekend, we tried to get his long-standing phone number changed back to ATT. I spent at least 15 hours over the weekend at the ATT store, at Best Buy, on calls with customer service at Great Call and ATT (some involving both carriers talking to each other), and still the problem is not resolved. This just seems wrong to me. I'm not sure to whom to turn to get this problem resolved.

Hi @phonelimbo

Thank you for reaching out to us. Could you please elaborate about what's going on? What were you told when you spoke to customer service from both companies? With more information, we'll be happy to look into this for you.

Thanks for responding to my post. I didn't know that was even a possibility.

Great Calls told me they no longer had my dad's number. ATT told me that they no longer had my dad's number. On Tuesday, someone from ATT called my dad's office, but he missed the call. He went to the ATT store on Brentwood in St. Louis, and the customer service person he spoke with said he saw my dad's number back in the ATT system and that he could put it on my dad's phone. My dad ended up buying a new flip phone--it had to be ordered because it wasn't in stock--and the phone arrived today. He now has to go back to the ATT store to get the number put on it. Until the number actually works, I can't say that the issue has been resolved. In addition, because of the porting difficulty both my father and I ended up incurring some additional expenses:  I bought my dad a Tracphone so that my dad, who is 91 years old, wouldn't be driving around without a way to call if he had a problem, and my dad ended up buying a new flip phone, even though his old one still works. If and when the new number is installed on my dad's new flip phone, ATT needs to reimburse us for these expenses, which should not have been necessary when moving from one phone carrier to another.

Thank you.

Have fun with that.  At&t is not responsible for your added expenses.  Especially not when you made the choice to port your phone number out to another carrier and then it didn’t work out. Cellular service is not a public utility there is no right to access.
