I'am going to buy a wireless phone from wallmart, I have an AT&T account. Do I have to purchase let"s say, an AT&T Samsung, or any other brand that doesn't have AT&T on it?

You don't have to purchase a phone that says AT&T, but you should purchase a phone that is either AT&T or Carrier unlocked that will work on AT&T. IMEIs are on the outside of boxes, before you open a box and make a purchase check the IMEI
