Phone lock/unlock inquiry

Re Carrier lock/unlock: I have 3 wireless accounts -- one with AT&T Wireless, one w/ AT&T Prepaid, and one w/ an AT&T MVNO. Two Related Questions: 1. If I purchase a refurbished phone that is locked to AT&T -- am I correct to assume it will work with an AT&T MVNO (i.e.: Red Pocket / uses an APN virtually identical to one of my ATT accts.) ? 2. I have no immediate plan to switch carrier (AT&T is all I can get a good signal on where I am located) -- However, if I purchase a legitimate/clean refurbished AT&T carrier-locked phone -- and want to change carriers in the future -- can I get it unlocked via AT&T?

We're here to help you with the information that you require @Jn1135.

AT&T has a device unlock policy that requires you to meet certain eligibility criteria.

Your device is an AT&T phone or device and isn’t active on another AT&T account.

Your device has a paid-off installment plan, was paid in full when you bought it, or hasn’t been reported as lost, stolen, or involved with fraud.

Your device doesn’t have a past-due account balance.

You can find more details about the eligibility requirements and how to submit an unlock request on AT&T’s website Get Info About Device Unlock Eligibility - AT&T Wireless Customer Support (att.com).

If you purchase a legitimate/clean refurbished AT&T carrier-locked phone and want to change carriers in the future, you can get it unlocked via AT&T if it meets the eligibility criteria. You will need to submit an unlock request using the AT&T Device Unlock app.

We hope this information helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us.
