Hello @hjleonard1790, and thanks for reaching out for assistance.

To further help with unlocking the SIM card with your LG device:

1. Remove the SIM card from the device.

2. Power off the phone.

3. Insert the non- AT&T SIM back into the device.

4. Power on the phone.

5. Then enter the code.

Once that's done, the phone should be operational. You can also use our Device Support Article for additional inquires.

Let us know if this helps.

I never get the prompt to enter the code. The phone is the AT&T Samsung S9 Plus. the non-AT&T Sim card is  from Cricket Wireless,. Am I having issues because Cricket Wireless is an AT&T company. I have removed,  and restarted  inserted the Cricket Wireless sim several times to no avail. Any Idea what might be the problem?

Cricket IS At&t.   Lock stock and barrel.  You will not get a pop up, and a locked At&t phone will work on cricket.

Cricket is AT&T so it won't ask for the unlock code, but if you're in Taiwan, why are you using a Cricket SIM card? I'm assuming you wanted to use a Taiwanese carrier so get one of their SIM cards and put it in. Then it will ask for the code.

Thanks. I figures as much. I always purchase factory unlocked phones so never had to deal with this. The factory unlocked phones allows for creating a WiFi hotspot without being  gorged by AT&T/Cricket. This AT&T S9+ was my wife phone. She purchases the latest model outright each year. She recently purchased a AT&T SamsungS10 +.

The use of a phones hotspot has absolutely nothing to do with the phone being locked or not, or branded, or not.   If you purchase a plan that allows hotspot use, the hotspot works.  There is no additional charge for using it.

Nor true. I didn't purchase a hotspot plan with my Cricket Wireless plan. On my factory unlocked Note 8 SM-950F I can pop in my Cricket sim card and use the hotspot without being charged a fee.

Cricket just hasn't caught you yet. Eventually, the hotspot usage will be detected and your hotspot will stop working. Same thing happened to me when I switched.

Huh?  Why would it NOT work?  Unless you have purchased a plan from AT&T that expressly excludes the use of the hotspot, the phone is capable of tethering and there is no up charge.  Currently the cheaper unlimited plans (prepaid and postpaid)  and the one gig prepaid plan do not allow tethering.  All of the other plans, prepaid and postpaid allow you to tether your data to another device - there is no fee to tether.
I think you were thinking of way, way back when plans first included data use, and there was a small fee to use tethering.  They pretty much added fees for everything.  Those plans have an existed in 10 years.
Cricket has differs rules and you can add hotspot ala’carte rather than paying extra on the entire plan to get tethering use.
