Netgear MR1100 does not work with IP Passthrough Enabled

I was sent a Netgear Nighthawk LTE Mobile Hotspot Router (MR1100) to demo.  However, I'm having trouble getting this to work in IP Passthrough mode.

When IP Passthrough mode is enabled any ethernet connected devices will not get an IP by DHCP?

Do I need to manually enter static IP information?  and if so, how do I find out what that is?

The MR1100 is on the latest firmware (NTG9X50C_10.20.05.02), I've also tried different ethernet connected devices just in case (a Sonicwall firewall, a Microsoft Surface, and a Dell Latitude), neither worked.

I also tried disabling the DHCP server on the MR1100 when I was turning on IP Passthrough to see if that made any difference, but it doesn't.

In order for me to get the device out of IP Passthrough mode, I have to manually factory reset the device.

I have the same device.  They have sent me two of them.  Passthrough does not work properly.  I got it to work initially on both devices but out of the blue it stops working.  Resetting to factory does nothing.  I called support and while they were great to talk to, they are not knowledgeable about these things.  They keep on sending me replacements.  I think it has something to do with the firmware myself but can't prove it.

Anyone have any luck getting this resolved?

Just to also note....When passthrough is enabled and NOT working properly, the LED light blinks orange when noting is plugged in.  When passthrough is working properly, it blinks blue until you plug an ethernet cable plugged in, then it turns orange.

Here are my troubleshooting steps.

1) Reset to factory via web gui and the button on the back.

2) Taken the battery out, replaced the battery,

2) Disable passthrough - internet/wireless works on device.

3) Enable Passthrough - with DHCP still enabled

4) Enable Passthrough - without DHCP enabled

Note, when AT&T sent me a replacement, passthrough worked great for 4 days.  I noticed it stopped working when I tried to view my security camera's from my phone.  The only thing I have not done is replace the SIM card.  I don't think it is the problem since the internet works when passthrough is disabled.

I have tried several firewalls/routers with it with no luck.  AT&T PLEASE HELP.  Great device when it works!!!

Here is my final update.  I have spoken with Netgear and AT&T.  No luck.

How I made it work with my Linksys WRT3000ACM was to setup the Linksys the way I wanted it, and then enable Bridge mode.  Once I did that, I am good.  We will see if it drops but it connected right away.

The only downside is that I can't access the advanced smart Wi-Fi settings on the Linksys but I have already set it up so I should be good.  I hope this helps until Netgear and AT&T fix the passthrough issues.

When I spoke to an AT&T Advanced Devices team member, he kept suggesting it had something to do with the plan on my account... yet he couldn't see my account because it's a Demo under a AT&T corp account, but he kept saying that must be it.

It doesn't sound right... since if it was a service plan issue, the hotspot shouldn't even work at all.

Just passing along what I experienced.

I wonder if the old firmware works...  yet there is no way I can find to download older firmware or flash older firmware.  😕

Stuck...

Update:  Called Netgear support and they confirmed there is an issue with IP Passthrough on the MR1100 running FW 10.20.05.02.  There is apparently a queue of other people that have called about the same issue, and I have a case opened for them to call me back once a firmware fix is in place.  Unfortunately I have a feeling that won't be until after my demo expires.

I wish Netgear and AT&T would have made some sort of official statement or notice on the product support page... but oh well.

We'll see.

I just got one of these devices and want to hook it up to my home wifi router and use it really as just a modem.  Is that what IP pass-through enables me to do?  Just plug in Ethernet cable from the Nighthawk into the WAN port of my existing home router?

Yes, you may have a problem with it staying that way once you connected. These have a problem with pass-through enabled.

OK Thanks.  So I'm guessing we are awaiting a firmware update to fix this issue?

Nope.  Still waiting on Netgear/AT&T to come up with a fix.

The only way I was able to get this to work is to do the below.  NOTE: This device does not seem to fully support a simple IP Passthrough, it seems more like a hybrid version of it.

1. Connect your device to the ethernet port of the MR1100

2. Logon onto the web console http://192.168.1.1

3. Click on Settings > Setup > Mobile Router Setup

4. Click the ON option in the IP PASSTHROUGH (do not disable DHCP)

5. Click on Settings > Network

6. Configure your device's NIC or WAN interface with the below:
IP Address - this is the IP Address that is listed in step 5

Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0 or verify it from step 5

Gateway - 192.168.1.1 or verify it from step 5

Once you do step 4, the MR1100 reboots, so you can't log back in to see Network Settings, unless you do a factory reset.

I've since returned the unit, waiting for a firmware fix... but I think the AT&T variant of the MR1100 I had did not have a Network settings page that allowed me to see the external IP??  Unless do you see it?
