Mobile Hotspot

I have a used AT&T mobile hotspot (Unite Express 2) someone gave me. It still has the Sim card in it. Can I just add it on to my att account to use it or do I have to purchase a new Sim card & add a new data plan to my account to use it?

Probably not if you have a postpaid account. Not many plans allow adding a hotspot. You definitely can’t add it to a prepaid account, prepaid accounts are stand alone. Even if you can add it, prepaid plans are probably cheaper. Unless the SIM card was never activated, you will probably need a new SIM card. If you do get a prepaid plan, it would be a new account.

Hello @Shea21656, we're happy to help with additional information for activating your Mobile Hotspot.

In addition, to the information provided by @sandblaster. If you’re looking for a great prepaid plan, but you’re happy with your current device, it’s easy to activate your hotspot or tablet on the AT&T network through our bring your own device (BYOD) program. You can stop by your local AT&T store to purchase a SIM Card, or go online to activate a SIM card you already have.

Visit our AT&T Prepaid Hotspot page to review data plan details. Feel free to reach back out if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.
