Kyocera DuraXE E4710 firmware update issues, please help

Background info: The phone's software version is 1.005AT / the AT&T Address Book cloud connection attempt forces it's way into view every time I click on contacts - not very pleasant. / hotspot creation seems to be locked by software / I have a nearly new condition unlocked device that works fine otherwise.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Upon selecting the option to update the firmware, the popup tells me it is indeed old and that I can proceed to get the update.

"Software Update

Processing...

The download for the software update will begin in a moment..."

[It just hangs there, and doesn't do anything. All I can do is exit that menu option. Reboots return it to that same screen. The online troubleshooter presents no useful information whatsoever.]

I have a fast connection speed, yet it hangs. But sometimes I get a message stating that no update is available for your device at this time. Then it says your software is up to date, you may check again in 23 hours 59 mins. I then have to wait another day, playing this silly game trying to turn off the AT&T Address book and enable the hotspot abilities that my provider says I have.

So here's my question: Is there some kind of cache that I could clear to make a fresh start on the install? Also, is it possible to download the firmware via Wi-fi or via a direct link. I could then connect the device to a PC via USB to install it. I prefer to not have to go surfing around for rogue copies of firmware to install with ADB. Do I need to put an AT&T sim in the phone to gain the right to fix this?

I believe its only right that leftover residue from the AT&T Address book (well intended at the time) be able to be cleared out of users phones and the process made easy by AT&T.

Thank You,

John

Solved my own problem.

I wound up having to (Edited per community guidelines) my DuraXE, which brought some advantages. Used king(Edited per community guidelines) (desktop) v3.5.0.1157, which initially failed twice till I unlocked the bootloader, then it got (Edited per community guidelines) immediately. But all this had to be done on a Win10 64-bit PC, as my Win7 32-bit netbook couldn't see the phone when issuing the 'abd devices' command. It just did nothing, even with the same drivers installed that I used on the Win10 machine.

I used the Universal ADB Driver, which is downloadable as an .exe and is named 'universaladbdriver_v6.0.exe' but internally its the latest Google ADB driver v11.00. I should note at this point that I tried seven (7) different drivers all claiming to work with this phone or 'family of phones'. Just use the above and put it on a 64-bit machine and it will probably be okay. I wrote up a detailed how to for myself in case I need to do it all again, just Private Message me and I'll give it to you.

You can install apps without (Edited per community guidelines) on the DuraXE, but finding those that can work with a non touchscreen is a trial and error kind of thing. I currently have 'GPS Status' installed, as well as Es FIle explorer, Cleaner by Augusto, and Qute terminal (good util for switching Kinguser over to SuperSU).

I figured out how to get rid of that annoying AT&T Address Book cloud connection attempt thing that pops up whenever you click contacts - and you don't need (Edited per community guidelines) to fix it. The fix sustains through all reboots, thus that misery is over. Search online for a free utility called 'Hidden Android Settings_v0.1' (look on Apkpure site) then go to Manage Applications. Then scroll over to the right to 'All' then find the running app "AAB sync" <-- that's the one! Just select the option to force it to stop, then disable. Problem solved. I could not get even one word of help from AT&T about stopping THEIR jammed-up updates. So I never had the option to resolve the problem via an OTA update as som may try to suggest. I had to figure it out myself.

The good thing, the upshot is that in not helping people with AT&T phones they force people to learn on their own. So unexpectedly, I learned how to then got (Edited per community guidelines). Now I can make internal changes as well as install apps that I couldn't install because of the bootloader being locked.

I hope this helps someone.

Metta,

John

When reading my last post, please replace "(Edited per community guidelines)" with the word r-o-o-t, or perhaps r~o~o~t, or maybe rooowt, or maybe ruuut and you will get the picture. Somehow that word has become flagged as profanity in AT&T's world.

I tried the procedure outlined by "lonvs" above to turn off AT&T Address Book and almost succeeded, but the error INSTALL_PARSE_FAILED_INCONSISTENT_CERTIFICATES keeps getting raised when the "adb install" of "Hidden Android Settings" fails.

I would private message "lonvs" as suggested above, but the PM feature does not appear to currently exist in AT&T Community Forums.

Does anyone have a suggestion?  I believe the Security and Developer settings are all correct.  Also, adb appears to basically work other than for installing an apk, due to the inconsistent certificate error above.  I do not think the app already exists, as it does not appear able to be uninstalled (the closest installed app appears to be com.android.settings).
