Key pad not working with automated systems

I have an at&t Prepaid (originally "go phone) and when I make a call to a place that has an automated answering system and am asked to press a number to reach the department I want, when I the number one, I don't get connected to the department I am trying to reach. If I am told to press the number 2, my contact list pops up. I don't know if there is a setting that will allow the phone keypad to toggle back and forth between actual phone call needs and using the numbers to do things like see my contact list.

  • What is the make and model of the cell phone that you're using?
  • How long has this been going on?
  • Have you ever been able to successfully navigate through automated systems by following their prompts on your current cell phone?
  • Does this occur with all automated systems, or just the one place that you mentioned?
  • Also, do you currently have AT&T PREPAID service with us, or do you have a postpaid wireless account with AT&T?

The make and model of my phone is LGPhoenix2

I noticed this problem the first time I called a place that has an automated answering system. That was several years ago. I can text, but I can't reach the person I need through the automated system which only uses pressing the number of the option I need. So no I have not been able to successfully navigate an automated system on my phone, which includes when I called the AT&T 611 help number. I can make calls but the phone does not work properly with automated systems that uses the keypad alone. It occurs with all systems that require the use of the keypad.

I do have prepaid service with AT&T PREPAID and have always had that plan.
