Is there Window PC software for Smartflip?

My old 3G Nokia flip phone is getting disabled by AT&T next week when they shut down their 3G network - I got a replacement phone through them, the Alcatel SmartFlip phone. My old Nokia dumb flip phone had a great piece of software called PC Suite that I could use to hook the phone up to the PC via a USB cable to transfer files, backup the phone contents, read and send texts, plus other stuff - I've spent an hour looking for PC software for the new phone, found something called Alcatel PC Suite, downloaded and installed it, but it appear that only works with Alcatel smart phones - it won't recognize my phone. Is there any way to view texts on my PC? I used that feature relatively frequently, and I'm very unhappy it appears that nothing like Nokia's PC Suite exists for the new phone - if I had known that were the case, I would have bought my own phone that did come with PC software to replace my old phone.

We'll be happy to walk you through the file transfer options that are available @astronut669.

You can back up your device and transfer files without any additional software. To do that:

  1. With the device powered on, insert the MicroUSB end of the MicroUSB cable into the port on the left side of the device. Insert the USB end of the MicroUSB cable into an open port on the computer.
  2. To place the device into the correct USB mode, from the home screen, press the OK button to access the Apps tray. Press the navigational buttons to highlight the Settings app then press the OK button to select.
  3. Press the right or left button to highlight the Storage tab, then press the down button to highlight USB Storage. Press the OK button to select. Ensure Enabled is highlighted, then press the OK button to select.
  4. Click the File Explorer icon, then click This PC.
  5. Click the device name, then navigate to the desired folder.
  6. Drag and drop files to/from the device drive to transfer.

Please let us know if this works for you. Thank you for reaching out to our AT&T Community.

There's no reason you can't still buy your own phone. The free phone that AT&T supplied you with was to keep you connected for talk text and possibly data. You're not forced to use that phone. You just can't use your old 3-g phone, and there are limited phones that you can use going forward

ATTHelp - Thanks, got my wallpaper and ringtones from my old phone onto the new one.  I could not copy contacts from my old SIM card to the new one or swap them because the new phone has a nano-sim, old card is bigger, won't fit, and the manager at my local AT&T store said they could not copy contacts from the old SIM card to the new one. However, I have a micro-SD card in the old phone and have copied my contacts to it - can I put that card into my new phone and access contacts from it? Otherwise I'm stuck manually entering 84 contacts - UGH!

I also had to pay $52 for the new phone - the rep at the store said I should have gotten it for free and I should at least be able to get a credit for the payment - problem is I have a pre-paid plan, and if the credit is added to my account before my next quarterly payment is due I will lose the credit - unused money does not roll over into the next quarter, you just lose it. How can I get a credit or refund?

Formerly - yeah, I was forced to buy this Alcatel because I only learned that 3G was going away on Feb 22 two weeks ago - AT&T had been sending me VM's that I had to get a new phone for months, but for some reason when a computer calls my old phone VM would only record the last 2 seconds of the message so I could never hear what they were calling about. Do you know of any flip phones that come with Windows software like the Nokia PC Suite? I used it to mass delete texts - w/o Alcatel software, I'll have to delete them one by one manually - a royal (Edited per community guidelines)!

Hey there @astronut669, we want you to be able to transfer your contacts over to your new device.

Let's try using the AT&T Mobile Transfer App!

  1. Make sure both devices are compatible with the free AT&T Mobile Transfer app. If they aren’t, learn about about other ways to transfer contacts and content. Compatible devices include:
    • iOS - 8.0 and higher
    • Android - 5.0 and higher
  2. Connect your old device and new device to the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Download the AT&T Mobile Transfer app on both devices:
  4. Open the AT&T Mobile Transfer app:
    • On your old device: From this device will appear on your screen. Select that button and follow the steps until you see a barcode. You'll use it to make the transfer.
    • On your new device: When To this device shows on your screen, select the button and follow the steps until you see a barcode reader.
  5. Scan the code on your old device with the barcode reader on your new device. This links both devices.
  6. Follow the prompts to transfer your info.

Let us know how this works out for you!

Old Nokia flip phone is not compatible with the AT&T Mobile Transfer app - it's a dumb phone that's 12 years old. And the phone will not let me copy contacts from the phone memory or SIM card to the microSD card, no option to do that - I can't find where contacts are even stored. My only hope appears to be to buy a SIM card reader and hope I can extract contacts to my PC then copy to the new phone, which isn't Android - it's AT&T's proprietary KaiOS.

Kaios is not a Att os.  It was developed for dumb phones.  What you are wanting you won't find with a flip phone any more.

Don't have the options AT&T suggested, cannot export or move contacts except between phone memory and the SIM card. Are you suggesting that there is no way to copy contacts from a SIM card? I found a SIM card reader online, so if I buy it I'll be able to copy the contents to my PC - but I have no idea what they will look like, what format and file type I'll get, may not be readable. I *was* able to copy some .vcf contact data from the phone, but don't know if KaiOS uses that format for contacts.

Nevermind about the .vcf file - it's empty, only contains the contact name, no other info.
