A11 model number anywhere. It is an international unlocked phone purchased from a 3rd party, so I guess I'll just wait and see.

No need to wait and see. If it’s not on the list and you don’t have VoLTE actively working, it won’t work after February, maybe sooner.

Actually, since I posted this I was diverted to ATT Customer Service when trying to make an outgoing call. They asked me for my IMEI number, did some research; asked if it was an unlocked phone, and where I got it. She said that ATT was having trouble identifying phones that were not sold by ATT. I was offered a free replacement phone. The replacement phone, which I assume is refurbished is 2 years older than the one I am using. And I was told that I would know by the end of January whether or not I needed a replacement. They said they were offering the replacements so they don't loose customers.
After ending the call I got a text with a number to call if I want to order a free replacement. I was told the replacement is a Samsung Galaxy S9.

I notice that the most recent version of AT&T's "supported devices" document (December 15, 2021) includes an entry for
> Xperia 1* (J8170)
where the asterisk indicates that a software update is supposedly required for this device.
What kind of software update is this referring to? Where is that software update supposed to originate from? Sony? And when?
Also, what about other Xperia 1 (mk I) models currently compatible with the network? J9110?

The 1 next to some model numbers indicates a required software update. Not an asterisk, a D there isn't one on any whitelisted Sony

The model number of the phone has to match the list exactly. And I have no idea why they have asterisk. The phone works right out of the box.
What do you mean by "works right out of the box"? You have already had a chance to test the post-February 2022 functionality of that phone (e.g. 5G)?
Right now essentially everything works "right out of the box". My question is specifically about phones that will continue to work after February.
I have the model number x1 on the list it gets volte. 5G is limited to Samsung and Google unlocked phones.
Weird, I have the same update day, but different document.
2 different docs and probably edited by to different people.
Just add more confusion.
Also, GLIMMERMAN76, you said above that model designation should match exactly. But is it sufficient? Could there still be some software differences out of the box that impede compatibility even if model designation matches and hardware matches?
In this case I'm referring specifically to XQ-BC62 (Xperia 1 III). B&H Photo currently sells XQ-BC62 as an unlocked dual-SIM device (and, if I'm not mistaken, X in modern Sony nomenclature indicates a dual-SIM device).
On the other hand, it is rather strange for a US carrier to claim support for dual-SIM devices. Even Sony itself on US version of their Web site says nothing about dual-SIM capability of their Xperia 1 III.
So, again what exactly is meant by XQ-BC62 in the list? Is B&H Photo's dual-SIM XQ-BC62 officially supported?
