Hello Community,

We've had a lot of great responses in this thread, but wanted to jump in and let you all know that we are working daily to combat the SPAM epidemic.

Specifically regarding SPAM texts from an email address, here's what you can do.  We are aware of scammers using this method and appreciate any information customers can share, so we can work together to stop these messages. Even incomplete reports with just the message content help us stop suspicious messages and protect others from receiving similar messages.

We are working on ways to better allow customers to report these instances to us. Currently, customers can forward the text content to 7726 and then report this 10-digit number as the sender: 1410100000. Our systems will be able to look up the sender’s email address, allowing us to take appropriate action.

Spam and malicious activity is not limited to text, unfortunately.  You can report:

Thanks

Tim, AT&T Community Strategy

email isnt text. Email has spam filters there are no text filters unless you block the numbers yourself imagine it at&t blocked an important text that you needed thats life or death. They dont see the content of a text all it sees is a valid number. This has been discussed thousands of times in the forums i suggest you search a bit about it. Also i cant do a darn thing. We are all just customers here same as you

I find it very hard to believe you don’t have the technology to shut down porn texts... in fact I’m sure there is probably a profit in it somewhere for carriers... the first carrier I find that can stop or filter unsolicited unwanted porn I’m switching!!!

what profit would be in it for carriers when they are coming from foreign countries and scammers. If you click the links it attempts to acquire your personal information. @sandblaster 🤦

From Verizon: How do I block a number from calling or texting me?

5. Block up to 15 email addresses, websites or text names (e.g., nickname@vtext.com) for free through the Blocks page or with the My Verizon app. You can also block all text messages sent from the web or by email.

thank god you don't work for att although you would probably be good there

When you call AT&T kindly ask the Cust Care Rep to look up article #446389. They can block ALL sms and mms email to text. There is no way to filter out based on content. That is the official solution.

which in turn blocks messages from legitimate messages and also friends and family if you go that route

I have been getting the worst of these kind of porno texts and poisoned links, multiple times a day. I was doubtful, but yes, calling AT&T and providing this 446389 article number (referenced in related forium posts) DOES work (as of 5-18-20 today), as well as providing the additional info about "torch" and "mind" seen in those posts (look around, you'll easily find them), which allows the rep to find the correct system in which to make the fix. ll I did was use the two words, and that was enough for them to find what they were looking for. Of course, I don't know yet if the fix is really in, but I'm hopeful. The rep confirmed that they had found the correct system and made the correct fix. I also asked her to make a note in my file, which she happily did. So, much depends on the quality of the rep you are speaking with. Take care, stay safe, have some patience, and BELIEVE what others who have successfully done what you are trying to do are reporting. AT&T should certainly have this choice built in so that all this is not required, but until that day . . .

This is happening to me and I'm very upset about it.  I just want it to stop and have not been able to block the texts because they come from different email address.

We pay ISP’s for services & taxes, surcharges & access fees, etc. Major carriers should be operating as 1 central unit, and resolve this serious issue with unwanted porn & Russian text with so many youth that have cell phones now. Seniors who do not subscribe to traditional contract cell services are being abused & ATT, Verizon,T-Mobile, MetroPCS & Spectrum are making money on this type of illegal use of their networks to traffic these types of filth & indecent text. All PUC’s should be engaged on this w/full accountability NOT just App’s to make addl $’s on & many with skeleton cell phones & plans that do not hv capacity for. Shame on Microsoft, Google & AT&T for being the largest domains allowing these culprits to exist on their networks.

Me too!  4-5 messages yesterday using phone numbers and at least one email address. I block them all and then more come some with new numbers some with the numbers I’ve blocked. How can they get through if I’ve blocked them all?  Why is there no security for the user?

I have been experiencing the same thing. Porn links being text messaged to me in a group of 20. Most are phone numbers and usually there is one or two email addresses. I block everyone but still they either get a new block of numbers or they get through even though they are blocked. How can a phone number or email address get through if I’ve gone in and blocked them. I’ve sent countless copies of these texts with the numbers/emails to 7226 or SPAM for ATT.  Haven’t heard a word and nothing is happening to change it. I’m 67 and I don’t need this in my life.

I agree with the previous poster, reported 24 texts to att with numbers and content and nothing changing.

I've been getting these for the past month.  It appears I don't even have a way to block them on my phone (Galaxy S10e), only option is to delete them. Something's going on because when I told my daughter she said she and her SO had been getting them, too.

I also receive these texts from email address.  Pornographic. I send a message back and write.  STOP.  Your email address has been reported to Google and FCC.

I ten report it to Google using this link

https://support.google.com/mail/contact/abuse?hl=en

It usually stops but then i get more from other addresses. It’s maddening.  We need a solution .

Replying STOP is the wrong thing to do. You are just confirming a valid number and likely getting more texts.

Article #446389 specifically blocks texts originating from email addresses. Don't let the "experts" at AT&T or on this forum tell you otherwise. I suffered for over a year with these despicable porno texts from spoofed email addresses, was told I could do nothing about it, but then found this article on this forum and followed the instructions to enable this feature on my phone number. I have not gotten email-generated porno texts since the day I did it over a YEAR ago. And I still get ALL the texts from my family and friends, complete with images, etc. It works. It does NOT shut down or degrade my normal text-based messaging. What this article does NOT block is the group texts originating from other phone numbers, the ones usually in groups of 20 or less, the ones with the poison porno links everyone is complaining about. To all of you who are getting these, and to AT&T, I say: it's not about whether these group texts can be blocked or not, it's about the hackers exploiting holes in the phone carrier's technology to hide their actual phone number and substitute a fake one (even yours!) as the phone number of origin for the text. Until AT&T and other carriers fix these holes in THEIR technology, the hackers will continue to exploit them, and we will all continue to get these email, porno and other malicious group texts. It's true that there is "nothing YOU can do about it", but there IS something AT&T and other carriers CAN do, and MUST do: fix the holes in their technology so that these kinds of long-standing complaints become part of techo history, where they belong.
