How do I unlock my Aircard 754S Elevate AT&T mobile hotspot?
I tried to use my ATT Elevate Hotspot that I bought on Amazon.
The seller said it was unlocked. It works with AT&T mobile broadband data mini sim card, but when I put in a T-Mobile mobile broadband data mini sim card, I get this error:
SIM mep-locked (link)
I googled the error and according to this site (link), the problem is that the device isn't unlocked.
So apparently the ATT Elevate Hotspot is locked. In order to unlock it, I look at the information on the back of the device (link) and copy the IMEI number into AT&T's unlock website, https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/#/.
Unfortunately, when I try to do that, I get this error (link😞
Error: We found no record of the IMEI number you entered.
And when I try to do it again, I get this error:
Error: We’re sorry, but we’re having technical difficulties with our network at the moment. Please try again later. If this problem persists, try clearing the cache and cookies from your device. Questions? Call us at 800.331.0500, or dial 611 from your AT&T wireless phone. (errorCode.ULS3001)

To anyone interested in the solution to this problem,
It turns out not only that the device is locked, but also that AT&T does not unlock these mobile hotspots. If you would like to make the carriers compete for the lowest data price, you have to go online and buy a hotspot that is truely unlocked - preferably one by a foreign manufacturer such as Huawei.
What the wireless companies have deviced to do is lock customers in to their data so that you have to buy from them instead of from anyone else. It is akin to what drug dealers do - steaking out their block and making their customers dependent on them - and ultimately it is something that ought to be punished by federal law because it hurts the general public at large.

What Lafayette says here is more or less true, near as I can tell. I had a Sierra hotspot with ATT and it worked great, but it would not unlock, ever. Finally, I got (after many hours with a variety of tech supports) the answer from Sierra that it was not possible to unlock it. So, I bought another from Amazon that was advertised as "unlocked", but, sadly, it was not either. Go with a Huwei or ZTE unlocked unit and you'll be happier.
