How Do I Disable AT&T Startup and Shutdown Tone on an LG B470?

I got this phone for my elderly mother who needs her phone to be loud since she can't hear very well.  When you turn the phone on or off it plays the AT&T tone very loudly.  How do I disable this or turn the sound off for just this without affecting the volume of the phone when she is on it or when it rings?

Hey there @freisk!

I hope you’re doing well! Thanks for reaching out to us here in the AT&T Community Forums!

Unfortunately, I know of no way to disable the startup chime without affecting the other sounds and notifications on the phone.

My apologies for that, and any trouble it causes your mother! We do have a specialized group who can help out with hearing impairment with a variety of services if you are interested.

You can find out more about that here:

 Have a great day!

I've resorted to putting the phone in Vibrate mode before I turn it off  - this is the only way I could find to eliminate the annoying startup/shutdown tones.  Why a way to shut it off through the phone's software is beyond me.  Dumb design.

Hello @SNETretiree

Thank you so much for letting us know your work around for eliminating the startup and shutdown tones! I definitely do apologize that there is not a direct way to shut them off. I truly do appreciate you letting us know though! Have a great day!

Same issue, thanks for sharing. Should be an app for this - there is an app to silence the phone on shutdown (silent boot) but not for startup.

AT&T Rep.

You are apologizing for an intentional design. Someone at AT&T wrote the code to make the thing chime when you turn it on. It was also intentional that there's no way to turn it off. The solution is to buy another provider's phones.

Last I checked Verizon and Tmobile have tones when their phones start also and they cant be disabled either.

Earplugs, that might work. Everybody has their own sound. At least everybody I've used. Maybe Spectrum doesn't.

This is inexcusable.  A child in school hides from an active shooter, turns on his/her phone to call 911 and in so doing tells the shooter where they are.  Is this what it is going to take?

It's not very elegant to walk into a quiet room and scream like Sam Kennison, just so everyone knows you're there.

The phone itself has to be in silent mode or vibrate. Not the volume. This....the only way to silence the Att start up jingle is to have the phone ringer on vibrate or silent.
