Help with volume control and notification wake up phone

I have the att radiant max. With the recent software update I can now longer control my volume for anything (media, ringer, texts) with the volume buttons on the side of the phone. Is there something I can do to fix this? 

Also is there a setting or option somewhere in the phone to have incoming texts wake the phone?

Let's work together to restore your device settings back to what you are accustomed to, crobinson7177 !

 

If you haven't already, lets restart your device, doing so refreshes the device and any operations that may be frozen. Press and hold the Power/Lock button, then select Restart

 

Once the device powers back on, retry the volume keys on the side of the device.

 

Also I was unable to locate any settings to wake your device other than using the power key.

Thank you for your help. At first when I restarted the phone, the volume keys still didn't work. But I restarted it again and they started working.

Any reason you could think of why they wouldn't start working the first time I restarted it?
