Firmware Updates – Things To Know From AT&T

When is the update coming for my smartphone?

The Update Is Out, Why Can't I Download It?

You're wondering why your device has not downloaded the latest update, am I right?. The simple answer is, the update may not be ready just yet. Some updates are rolled out slowly and not all devices will get them at the same time. This is a safety precaution in case of issues. When it will be ready? Soon we hope and ask for your patience.

In other instances the update is available, but there are issues preventing the download which are listed below:

Requirements To Update:

  • AT&T Branded Device - Software update releases are only available for AT&T branded devices. This means if you brought your device from another carrier, it may not download. You may need to contact the manufacturer.
  • The device must be on the AT&T network to download the update
  • A compatible device – Some software updates are not available for all makes & models due to the hardware requirements needed to download the update. This is controlled by the manufacturer and not AT&T.
  • Wi-Fi Connection – Some updates require an internet connection. Connect to Wi-Fi to download the update.
  • Space - If your device does not have enough space, consider erasing unneeded files to make room.
  • If the device was not originally on the AT&T network, the update may fail.
  • Power - Your device may need at least 80% battery power.

Note: You may need to contact the original carrier, or manufacturer, to download the latest updates if your device is not AT&T Branded.

Is There An Update for My Phone?

In some instances, the manufacturer may not have released an update for your device. You can check what version is available and the latest release date using the instructions below.

LG Devices

Some time ago, LG shuttered the doors on its mobile phone business. LG stated it "will continue to provide software and security updates as well as replacement parts in accordance with applicable regulations and contractual obligations." Please note, AT&T has no control on when or if LG will provide updates. Each manufacturer is responsible for that.

Check For & Update Your Device

  1. Visit Device Support.
  2. Select or change the selected device brand and model, if needed.
  3. Scroll down and select the System dropdown.
  4. Then choose Software update.
  5. You'll see details like: Release date, software version, and more
  6. Repeat the above steps to check for software updates for a different device.

If you are wondering how to check for an update on your device? Check out our step by step guide, just choose your device.

Don’t see an update listed? An update may not be available for your device or it has not been released yet.

Certain Apps Not Working After Update

This is normal in most instances. It can take time for the gurus to update an app to work with the latest OS update. Updating apps, outside of the AT&T apps, is not the responsibility of AT&T. Our recommendations, report the issue via the app store by placing a comment. Please be patient with the developers, as someone who has tried coding, it is not easy.

I went thru the trouble of signing up for an account, so that I could say that my AT&T 40440 PHONE IS A PIECE OF CRAP. IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY INTERNET COMMUNICATION PRODUCTS, DOESN'T TAKE SKYPE OR WHATSAPP OR WHATEVER.

If I had know that this phone was such a (Edited per community guidelines), I would not have bought it. I will take every opportunity to bad-mouth AT&T and their crappy phones.
