Compatible devices for the hotspot plan other than a hotspot

I have the 2014 truly unlimited hotspot plan, and I was wanting to know if there is a device other than a “hotspot” that my SIM card is compatible with, I use the nighthawk but they are so expensive and don’t last us any more than 2 years. It’s used all day every day and runs 6 cameras at my house continuously and has for a number of years, but it needs a more hearty device to get the best out of the service. When you first pop that SIM card into a brand new nighthawk it’s the best internet in the world. Just wanting better options.

I don’t understand what you’re suggesting, who or what moved to wireless, I pay $32 a month tax and all for unlimited gigs of data if your suggesting I move to say Cox or frontier I will lose the *unlimited* and pay $100-$200 maybe I am not understanding the cameras are wireless the hotspots wireless so I don’t know what else you would be trying to move to wireless

@whitneywalker31 I don’t understand what you’re suggesting, who or what moved to wireless

You're asking about wireless (cellular) service, you posted it somewhere else, so they moved it to wireless, which is more appropriate and is more likely to get help.

Can you please confirm that you are on the $35 Unlimited Prepaid Plan?  (34.99)

The only other offer for an unlimited hotspot was on the post paid unlimited plus plan from 2017. Hot spots were permitted but there was a base price for data plus a $20 line access fee for each device.  $95 for one line.

If your indicating you've had this plan since 2014 I think it is probably the former...

@whitneywalker31

If you named a plan, it would be more helpful.

Internet delivered to a hotspot, is normally WIRELESS service and is delivered over the cellular network.

It’s the grandfathered hotspot, I have re read my original post and I’m still in awe that it’s this difficult to understand when I’m being asked about things not even mentioned in my post, its a truly unlimited plan “grandfathered in” is the name I guess my bill doesn’t say specific titles for that years plan, I don’t mean to sound so frustrated but i feel like why bother saying anything when the words aren’t being read, because I didn’t ask anything crazy.I am asking about a SIM card for the hotspot plan, does it work in anything other than a device specifically called a hotspot. The same topic you posted about 5 days ago on for someone else about their hotspot.

I'm sorry my reply was confusing.  However, your post was originally in the section of the forums for Wired Internet service.  Some people who know an awful lot about wireless and hotspots (formerlyknownas, Gary L) do not normally read that forum.  So I moved it such that they might see it.  [Granted, the section headers don't say "wired", but anything wireless needs to go under the Wireless tree.]

You might have thought you provided all the necessary information in the first post.  People who are honestly trying to help you didn't read it as being as clear as you thought.  You can keep on arguing with them, or you can just provide clear answers, even if you feel they are repetitive;  It's your choice.  Your choice may determine whether you ever get an answer or not.

I think the confusion on my part, on the wireless side, is there has never been a truly unlimited hotspot Plan offered before the postpaid unlimited plus plan which was offered in 2017 as a phone plan, tablet plan, watch plan, and dedicated hotspot device plan.

I vaguely remember there being a home phone and wireless internet plan that was Unlimited for a brief period of time and then discontinued in favor of a 500 gig, then 200 GB plan, and then reduced to a 100 GB plan.

As far as "will a hotspot SIM card work in something else?" like?, but no. AT&T does not allow sim cards provisioned for one type of device to work in a different device. And thanks to the 3-g shut off they are even excluding hotspot devices with all compatible specs, limiting customers to approved or AT&T devices

Because I still have no idea what plan you are on I have no idea if any of this applies to you.

Hi whitneywalker31, we're here to help you with devices that are compatible with your hotspot plan.

As the ACE @formerlyknownas mentioned, AT&T does not allow sim cards provisioned for one type of device to work in a different device. With the 3G shutdown the device would have to be one that is compatible with the AT&T network.

Let us know if this helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums.

Okay let me try this in 2014 I believe is what they tell when I call but I paid a penny for a little white hotspot through att, I do not know the name of said plan I just know I get a lot of wows because it is no longer an option if we change anything on the account we lose it, now I have since then upgraded several times and I bought the

NETGEAR Nighthawk M1 4G LTE WiFi Mobile Router (MR1100-100NAS) roughly 2 years ago and it’s already on its last leg. Now I am fully aware that it is a wireless service but I was trying to find a more wired option for this hotspot sim I use in the M1 mobile router, router being key word ,thinking and asking as it comes, would any router that is SIM card compatible work? Or do I have to pay $800 for an upgrade after only 2 years

It use to pick up and run everything and never phase it but now I can’t even see what caused motion at my house 3000 miles away because the screen is rolling black because the hotspot is not working properly it has internet but like it doesn’t give just that next little push like it use to, so I know it’s not that it’s not able and I’ve gotten new sim before and that’s not it, a heartier device that won’t break the bank and last more than 2 years

We understand the importance of wanting the most out of your service @whitneywalker31.

As mentioned above, AT&T does not allow sim cards provisioned for one type of device to work in a different device. Although, there are a couple options we can explore:

  • You can check upgrade eligibility or remaining device balance by signing in to myAT&T or the myAT&T App. Once you sign in, you will see the upgrade options for each line on the account. You can then check the box Upgrade this device > Upgrade.
  • If your device is damaged, find out how to fix or replace it. You can also track your AT&T device protection or warranty options by signing in and then select "Fix or Replace" device.

We're here if you have any questions. Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.
