Car Wi-Fi not working now due to OnStar issues

I had AT&T WI-FI mobile service which worked great in my car for 3 years. Now, it will not work due to OnStar/AT&T issues. I have spent hours on the phone with both and no one has resolved issue now. I am now told OnStar has an OnStar division that I need to speak to. Well, that does no good. They don’t know what they’re doing or how to resolve an issue I have had AT&T for 30 years, the only carrier that I have ever used, but I think it’s time for a change to another carrier that can provide service without the nightmare. Is anyone else experiencing this nightmare?

What model and year is your car?  Lots of cars that used OnStar were affected by the 3G shutdown.  Many should have gotten a software update before the shutdown that was actually completed Feb of 2022 (almost a year ago).   However, it could have taken longer for particular 3G towers in your location to be re-purposed for LTE and 5G, and only affected you recently.

But that depends. Generally, it affected cars as early as 2015 and newer.

Before that, OnStar was on Verizon (until 2013), and that was a whole other issue when they shut down their CDMA network at the end of 2022 leaving many older OnStar vehicles in the lurch.

Prior to the 3G shutdown, we were notified by our car mfr (Suburu) that we would need to upgrade the head unit (OnStar Nav System) due to the pending shutdown. We took it to Suburu and they exchanged/upgraded the head unit for free.

I have a 2020 Chevy Equinox. I’ll send another almost 2 hours on the phone tonight with AT&T, OnStar and Apple. None of the three had any resolution to the problem.
