Cant unlock ZTE MF279 that has been paid off.

For whatever reason it was denied because there was not 6 months of paid service. It was not used for pre-pay but to share my data between devices at the time.I replaced the failed previous model of the ZTE which was also paid off and used for a couple of years.Who can I talk to?Do I need to take it to an ATT store?

Thanks

Pay no attention to the reason for the denial. I am fairly certain that device can’t be unlocked.

@sgnl05   At&t has typically not unlocked mifi devices.  They agreed to unlock phones and tablets voluntarily and do unlock watches.

You may find a paid service than can unlock it for you.

I have requested and received an unlock code from AT&T for my paid off ZTE MF279. The instructions tell me to:

1) Insert a non-AT&T SIM card into the mobile hotspot. Note: You cannot use an AT&T SIM card to unlock the device.
2) Power on your hotspot and connect to the Internet.
3) On your laptop (or other Wi-Fi device), access the AT&T Wi-Fi Manager home page by visiting http://attwifimanager click Apply. Note: You may be prompted with a request to turn off the LCD on your hotspot. Press the Power button on the hotspot to turn off the screen, and then click OK.
6) Once the unlock code is accepted, your mobile hotspot is ready for normal use or http://192.168.1.1.
4) Enter the login credentials (the default is attadmin) and click Login.
5) Enter the unlock code and.
Problem is, I can't connect to the internet (using non-AT&T sim card) and http://attwifimanager. I get blinking red antenna symbol on the MF279 (sim card error). Tried ethernet cable connection to MF279 (with and without non-AT&T sim card and with no sim card at all) and used http://192.168.1.1 - no luck. I suspect I may need to connect using the USB port on the bottom of the MF279 (I'd need to use a male/male USB connector to do that, if such a thing is made). Any suggestions??

I can accomplish this for you. Email me at [email scrubbed]. I have handled this issue with a few of these boxes. If you have the unlock code, a non AT&T Sim, and an AT&T Sim, we can do this.
